How to Renew RC if it is Expired

Getting an RC (Registration Certificate) is equally important as getting your driving license is. Driving your motor vehicle becomes unsafe on the Indian roads if your RC is not renewed at the proper time. An RC is a certified document that makes it evident that your motor vehicle is permanently registered with the Government of India. It acts as a significant document proving the valid registration of your automobile.

If you are a resident of India, it is mandatory for owner of the motor vehicle to get an (RC) Registration Certificate as per (MV) Motor Vehicles Act of 1988. According to this act no individual can drive a motor vehicle on the roads of India with no registration certificate.

The RC of a vehicle is official for 15 years from the issuance date and it can also be renewed for a time of 5 years when it is expired. You can also get an impermanent registration certificate, which is valid for a month from the issuance date and after this, it cannot be renewed. All the vehicles in different states or Union territory are done in agreement with the set of laws that are under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

The procedure of getting the Registration Certificate renewed The procedure of getting the RC is very simple and easy. All you have to do is fill up the Form 25 and complete all the necessary columns. It should be accompanied with the original RC, valid pollution certificate and insurance certificate. Then the vehicle is taken for inspection in front of the registering authority. A nominal fee has to be paid for re-registering the vehicle at the cash counter for which you will get a receipt. Then the department issues the fresh registration certificate.

Can we get the car registration after the expiry? Yes, we can get the RC even after it has expired. The registration of the vehicle can be renewed online within 90 days or even after 6 months after the RC has expired if you do not receive a citation for terminated registration. Your month of expiration won’t change. To track the status of your RC can do by logging on to the website of www.txdmv.gov/track.

What are the consequences of carrying an expired registration? It is important to get your expired RC renewed the very moment it expires. If you are caught by the traffic police driving without RC or expired registration, you will be penalized. In the majority of the states, your vehicle movement will be restricted and the ticket won’t affect the prices of future car insurance.

Is there a possibility of renewing the RC after 15 years? Yes the registration certificate of a vehicle can be renewed even after 15 years as it is valid for this period from the date it is issued. It can be renewed for an extended period of 5 years, once it expires.

Can I renew my registration online if it is expired? Yes the RC can be renewed online and for this you will get a special discount for this. Within 90 days of your RC expiry, it can be renewed online up till six months of the expiry date.

What are the consequences of not renewing your RC? If by any chance you forget to renew your registration, you will certainly miss the ticket or you will not that little sticker, which you stick on your plate. This is a clear indication that your vehicle registration will expire. If you are moving in your vehicle, you will be easily caught by the police and they can easily mess up with you and further put up a fine on you.
