The 812 Superfast is powered by a 6496cc V12 engine that is derived from the now-defunct F12. Ferrari has made quite a few internal changes which result in a rear-wheel-drive car that produces a massive 800PS of power. Trembling with excitement, I press the starter button, pull the huge right paddle to select first gear and growl out on to the Dubai roads. The first thing that hits you as soon as you floor the throttle pedal is the way this motor spins. It is as if Ferrari have forgotten to put a flywheel in this 800PS monster as the analogue tacho needle scampers up to the scarcely believable 8900rpm redline. Such is the vicious acceleration that through the first few gears, your neck feels more like an overcooked piece of meat struggling to retain its shape. The sheer thrust the 812 can generate will scare most people and it just never lets up. If you have the money, then there are very few cars that feel as evocative and as well established as the Ferrari 812 Superfast. Good things don’t come cheap and this applies to the 812 Superfast too. Priced at Rs 5.2 crore (ex-showroom), buying this car for most people is a thing of dreams. But hey, you can always work towards it, never know Dandekar might be listed next to Ambani one day! Clearly, I have lost my mind because I want this car so bad!On the another hand, the Aventador SVJ combines all the technological advancements the company has been adding to its cars over the years to make them faster - rear-wheel steering, Aerodinamica Lamborghini Attiva (ALA) active aerodynamics, lightweight material technology, suspension, tyres, electronics - with the most potent version of its 6.5-litre, naturally-aspirated V12. The motor develops 770PS of maximum power at an ear-shattering 8500rpm and peak torque of 720Nm at 6750rpm. Paired to a 7-speed single-clutch gearbox and an all-wheel-drive system, this motor is capable of propelling the Aventador SVJ from 0-100kmph in just 2.8 seconds. Lamborghini states the SVJ can achieve a top speed in excess of 350kmph!Expectedly, with so much aero tech flying around, the Aventador SVJ looks nothing short of a spaceship. As hard as it is to believe, Lamborghini claim they prioritized function over form, with the goal of a redesign being a 40 per cent improvement in downforce and 1 per cent reduction in drag co-efficient compared to the SV. You won’t mistake it for anything else but a Lamborghini Aventador, but the tweaks are all too apparent. The front gets a revised bumper and bonnet, there are larger air intakes on the sides and the rear bumper now resembles Darth Vader’s helmet. The underbody has been improved upon as well, to ensure better downforce. So, both cars are good enough and have their own forte. Ultimately, choosing one will boil down to your needs and wants.
