Tata Motors was the one who created the sub-4 meter compact sedan segment back in the year 2008 with the introduction of Indigo CS. While the car did outstandingly well in its initial years, today it is far behind in the competition. Tata Motors realized this fact and soon came up with a well-rounded package in the form of Zest. It was built with the notion of offering quality, performance, refinement as well as reliability all which were the forte of Japanese and Koreans so far. For me, Tata Zest has been a faithful companion till date with its built quality, fit and finish equivalent to that of the rivals. The company has done significant improvements right from interior design, comfortable seats, features and new set of engines. The 1.2L petrol engine has excellent torque throughput and offers remarkable low-end driving in the cities. The convenient driver's aspect is further boosted by 3-driving modes and balanced suspension. The Zest at the time of introduction, featured never-seen-before aspects from the company such as projector headlamps, LED DRLs, 5-inch touchscreen infotainment and parking sensors. With all the positive attributes it has, the vehicle is still going strong. However, with the advent of new players such as Ford Aspire, Hyundai Xcent, and similar cars, Tata Zest's demand is becoming weak. But still at an affordable range of Rs. 5.28 - 8.7 lakh and low maintenance cost, Tata Zest does excite a lot of subcompact car buyers.
