SUVs are all the rage nowadays, with more and more car makers making the switch to develop more of these. Even legendary supercar makers have yielded and launched SUVs. But nothing beats the dynamics and driveability of a low-slung sedan. Before sedans go extinct from the face of the earth, here are some of them which deserve a place in your list:

Stuttgart went green in style with the Taycan going up against the Tesla Model S. Porsche being Porsche, the Taycan is a ray of hope for the future of EVs. Unlike other EVs, the Taycan focused more on repeatable performance and better dynamics even though it weighs over 2 tonnes. The Model S finally has a worthy rival and every reason to worry. It develops 751PS and 1049Nm with a maximum claimed range of 402km and a 0-100kmph sprint time of 2.6 seconds. This all-electric sedan is headed towards India and will be debuting soon.

The Camry is the second most popular sedan from Toyota after the Corolla. But the Camry scores high for its hybrid powertrain. The sedan uses a 2.5-litre petrol engine coupled with an electric motor for a combined output of 218PS and 220Nm. It also has extremely comfortable seats and space to rival the likes of the Mercedes E-Class and the BMW 5-series. Priced from Rs 37.88 lakh, the Camry is one of the few hybrid sedans you can buy in India.

German muscle is the perfect term to describe Mercedes-AMG cars. The E63 S is the ideal example of that in a refined package and it is as old-school as it gets. Making it more powerful than some supercars out there is a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 which pumps out 612PS of max power and 850Nm of torque to all four wheels. Other than being devastatingly fast it is also big and comfortable on the inside. Well then, who needs a supercar when you can have the same with 4 doors, seats and a big boot.

Speaking of fast sedans with enough firepower to shame supercars, the Audi RS7 Sportback is a strong contender. The latest version gets a major revamp, making it even more desirable. The new generation car looks menacing thanks to the wicked front design and a 4.0-litre V8 with 48V hybrid tech makes sure you have  600PS of power to play with. It isn't exactly old school but the RS7 is a badass sedan with enough figures to make sure you’ll never crave for more power.

The first-gen Civic was a favourite in India with a huge fan base thanks to its epic design and out of this world cabin that was also spacious. Well, the current Civic is also a brilliant sedan although it lacks potent engines in contrast to the competition from European carmakers. Where the new Civic shines though it is the dynamics, easily the best sedan in its segment, with stellar ride and handling characteristics. The petrol is a 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated engine which produces 141PS of power and 174Nm of peak torque. The oil burner is a 1.6-litre, turbocharged diesel engine that develops 120PS/300Nm.

The S-Class is often known as the best car in the world for all the right reasons. It is the quintessential luxury saloon and is the benchmark and go-to choice for most buyers. Right now Mercedes offers two versions: S 450 and S 350 d. The former uses a 3.0-litre V6 that develops 367PS and 500Nm of twist while the 3.0-litre diesel engine is good for 286PS and 600Nm. Prices for the S-Class start from Rs 1.35 crore and if you’re looking for even more luxury, there’s always the Mercedes-Maybach S-class for that.

The LS is the car which introduced Lexus to the world back in 1986. Refinement, reliability, technology and luxury were the core traits of Lexus then and today. In India, we get the full-size luxo barge in the LS 500h version which uses a 3.5-litre V6 engine mated to two electric motors to develop 354PS of power. The sedan also comes with a smart gearbox that uses artificial intelligence, adaptive variable suspension, and an all-electric EV mode. The feature list is massive with some highlights being 23-speaker Mark Levinson sound system, Kiriko ornamentation for cabin, auto lift up for easy ingress and egress, and infrared sensors for temperature control. All of these features and much more comes at a price starting at Rs 1.8 crore.

In the midst of gaping kidney grilles BMW once again shows us that it can still make gorgeous cars. The M8 Gran Coupe is arguably the best looking BMW sedan available today. It might also be the last few Beemers to sport a reasonably sized kidney grille. The M8 Coupe looks good but the sedan completes the design with a sleek roof that just works. Under the long hood is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that develops 600PS in Gran Coupe while the Competition version makes an extra 25PS. Who in the right mind would say no to extra ponies?

Audi’s flagship sedan and Mercedes-Benz S-Class’ arch rival is available in India in its latest iteration. Priced from Rs 1.56 crore, it comes with a 3.0-litre TFSI petrol engine that develops 340PS of power and 500Nm of torque. It is also mated to a 48V mild-hybrid system for additional torque boost. It comes with all-wheel steering, a Bang and Olufsen sound system, in-car air quality system, ambient lighting, Matrix LED interior lighting, 10-inch Android tablets and more. There and twin luxury seats at the seat while the left occupant also gets the relaxation seat.

It's been 22 years since the Honda City first graced our roads. It all started with the third-generation City in India, which also introduced us to the world of VTEC motors. After that, Honda took a softer approach for the sedan, making it more of an all-rounder. The same recipe with immense reliability and comfort made the City one of the most popular sedans in India. The same success was repeated for later fifth generation versions. And currently, Honda sells the sixth-generation City in India although a spanking new one is almost here and all set to be launched in India.
